How to find the local registrar: guidance from WestCountry Funeral Service

Our experienced, compassionate team is here to help you every step of the way. From advising you on who to contact to explaining what paperwork you’ll need, we’re always available to offer clear guidance and support, 24 hours a day.

What does a registrar do, and why is it so important to contact them?
The local registrar is the official responsible for legally recording a death and issuing the paperwork required to arrange a funeral. Without registering the death, you won’t be able to proceed with burial or cremation. The registrar will give you a death certificate, along with documents known as the ‘green form’ (for burial or cremation) and copies of the certificate for legal and financial matters.
It’s essential to contact the registrar in the district where the person passed away. Registration usually needs to happen within five days, though this can sometimes be extended in special circumstances. Whether you’re in Plymouth, Tavistock, Saltash or the wider area, we can provide up-to-date contact details for your nearest office and guide you through what to expect during the appointment.
As an independent family funeral director with five generations of experience, we believe in clear information and personal care at every stage.
